Many men who lose weight lose the tightness and rigidity of the skin of the arms, particularly the upper arms. There are many treatment options for these people. Residual fat can be removed with lipocontouring and with proper support the skin can contract can give a smooth, natural appearance. Others, however, need to have fat removed as well as skin. With a modest amount of loose skin an incision can be made high up in the arm pit and tighten skin upwards for a tighter more symmetric appearance. With heavier arms this type of incision needs to be extended down the inside aspect of the arm to give the tightened appearance that the person is really attempting to achieve; however, this result is at the expense of a scar down the inside of the arm. Fortunately, this scar fades very nicely but, as I say over and over, "a scar, is a scar, is a scar" and this scar may never fade as much as a person really would desire it to fade.
Results from arm contouring can be quite dramatic and can make a person feel so much more comfortable and confident wearing short sleeved shirts, gowns, and sporting clothes. This procedure may take two to three hours under general anesthesia and require the use of a compressive dressing for two to three weeks. Full activities are resumed after two to three weeks.
