Prominent ears can be a source of embarrassment for persons from very young to older. The procedure to re-shape the ear is directed at the cartilage which is what really determines the shape of the ear. Incisions are made on the back of the ear and certain changes are made in the ear cartilage while not affecting hearing can vastly improve the general appearance of the ear. This surgery demands more attention from the patient because the ears need to be protected particularly while sleeping for several months to prevent any damage to the ultimate result. This cosmetic ear surgery itself can be done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and usually offers very little discomfort.
