The nose is an anatomic part to which so much can be changed all according to the patient's desires: a nose can be widened, shortened, lengthened, drooped, lifted, and on and on. Therefore, it is important to talk with the patient at length in order to try to understand what it is the person is trying to achieve and with guidance the patient can be guided to a reasonable expectation to what the nose surgery can do. Very often photographs of noses that the patient desires can be useful in trying to asses a person's aims for the surgery. Rhinoplasty or nose job surgery may take anywhere from an hour to several hours under local or general anesthesia. The recovery period is not typically very painful but it does take months for the final result to reveal itself.
